About the Book

Fishes of Wisconsin by George C. Becker was first published by the University of Wisconsin Press in 1983. It has been reprinted and can be ordered on-line from the UW Press.  Thanks to the generosity of the UW Press, the author, and AT&T Labs, the complete text is available electronically on this web site. You are welcome to use and print the text for your own use, but please respect the rights of the copyright owners.

For an update of the current status of all of the fishes in the state, see  Wisconsin Fishes 2000: Status and Distribution by John Lyons, Philip A. Cochran, and Don Fago.

About DjVu

The entire, unrevised  edition of Fishes of Wisconsin  is accessible on this site using the DjVu plug-in. You can navigate through the book using the pull-down menus on the left side, the complete table of contents by page on the left, or the toolbar across the bottom (visible when viewing a page in DjVu). Note that the page numbers on the toolbar start with the cover and, therefore, don't match the numbers printed in the book.

Resizing the frames within the window will give you more space to view the text.

For more information about using the plug-in, right click while viewing any DjVu page and choose the "help" option. If you have any problems downloading or using the plug-in, see the troubleshooting guidelines and please email us.
