Teacher Argonaut Sue Sewell and JASON founder, Dr. Bob Ballard.
Columbus, Wisconsin Middle School 6th-grade teacher, Sue Sewell, was selected from hundreds of applicants to participate in an international science expedition in California’s Channel Islands, January 27-February 1, 2003, with oceanographer Dr. Robert Ballard.
Sue participated as one of eight Teacher Argonauts on the JASON XIV: From Shore to Sea expedition team, working hand-in-hand with a group of researchers, teachers and students from around the world.
Columbus Middle School and Madison JASON students and teachers followed Sue's journey through online reports and live broadcasts, via a direct, two-way satellite link to the BioPharmaceutical Technology Center Institute. Millions more followed at www.jasonproject.org.
Sue shared her discoveries, answered questions and guided area students in online activities via daily journals, live Webcasts and chats, digital laboratories and 3-D photos on the JASON Project Web site.
“Since I am passionate about science and learning, I model this passion for my students,” said Sue. “Being a Teacher Argonaut will allow me to share in the excitement of millions of students. The more students find success, the deeper my own feelings of success becomes.”
