National :
- The national University and College Designers Association (UCDA)awarded the Wisconsin Sea Grant Madison JASON IX Web site an 1998 award of Excellence out of 1,100 entries in this category nationwide. The winning entries reflect not only the creativity and originality of the designers but also their understanding of the unique challenges of designing for the web. The Web sites were judged for design, technology, flexibility, interactivity, and suitability for their intended audiences. Creativity in solving the problems of designing for electronic media was primary.
- The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE)awarded the Wisconsin Sea Grant Madison JASON IX Web site a Gold Medal in the 1998 national "Circle of Excellence Awards" WWW competition.
- Wisconsin Sea Grant Madison JASON IX Web site is featured on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, International Year of the Ocean - "Kids' and Teachers' Corner." (This link opens a small new browser window.)
- Wisconsin Sea Grant Madison JASON IX Web site was featured on the JASON Project (this link opens a small new browser window) home page the first week our site went online (December 15, 1997), attracting 920 visitors during its first five days. Madison JASON IX was one of only three selected by JASON Project organizers as a featured site. Our site was also featured during the live JASON IX Monterey-Bermuda Expedition international broadcasts on March 20, 1998.
- The Freshwater Fish Quiz of the Wisconsin Sea Grant Madison JASON IX Web site was featured on the JASON Project home page and also on JASON Project Student Zone beginning the week of the JASON IX Monterey-Bermuda Expedition (March 16, 1998). The Student Art Gallery is also featured on the JASON Project Student Zone.

We feel especially honored that of 1,200 entries evaluated, only 12 were selected for Gold awards. Criteria for judging included appearance, flexibility, interactivity and suitability for intended audience. "Creativity in solving the problems of designing for electronic media is primary," according to competition guidelines.

In September 1996, Discovery Communications, Inc., parent company of the Discovery Channel cable television network, selected the "Critter Quiz" section of the Wisconsin Sea Grant Madison JASON '96 website for inclusion on a CD-ROM. Entitled, "Animal Planet," the CD-ROM is designed for children ages 8-12 and features links to the Discovery Channel's WWW site and other sites "containing high-quality resources related to the animal world," according to company sources.

On March 4, 1996, the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA), at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign selected Madison JASON '96 as one of the Top Five Sites of the Day, an honor that ranks this site with such corporate sites as Pepsi, Microsoft and the Walt Disney Company.

- On March 25, 1997, the Wisconsin State Journal newspaper (daily circulation 85,467) featured Madison JASON '97 in the section "Just for Kids" in an article authored by a local area high school sophomore entitled, "It doesn’t hurt to learn while you cruise the Web."
- On March 10, 1997, Madison JASON '97 was featured as a campus-developed education site on the UW-Madison Web site.
