Wisconsin Sea Grant educates new Great Lakes boaters and other recreational users about basic water safety, cold-water survival, hypothermia and weather awareness. Sea Grant also provides more experienced boaters with periodic reviews and updates on the rules of the road and legal requirements, hypothermia and Great Lakes weather. For information on dangerous waves, rip currents and other coastal hazards, visit Longshore Currents and Rip Currents.
Jim has been with the UW Sea Grant program since 1978. He provides instruction on boating rules and regulations and safety practices on the water, especially the cold waters of the Great Lakes. Jim addresses these issues in close collaboration with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Jim obtained his Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
