Grab a mug of coffee or maybe a glass of beer and learn about the St. Louis River Estuary at the same time. Wisconsin Sea Grant and the Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve are starting the third year of science café-type evening talks about the estuary with a new partner, Minnesota Sea Grant.
These informal “River Talks” begin in October and will be held monthly through February at the Barker’s Waterfront Grille at Barker’s Island Inn in Superior, Wis., then will move across the estuary to the Vikre Distillery in Duluth, Minn. The series will end for the year in May.
The first River Talk, “Bringing Climate Change Home: Implications for the Twin Ports,” is scheduled for Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. at Barker’s Waterfront Grille (Barker’s Island Inn, 300 Marina Dr., Superior, Wis.) Hilarie Sorensen with Minnesota Sea Grant will discuss the effects of climate change on the St. Louis River.
The other talk in 2015 will be held Nov. 18 (no talk in December). Dates for 2016 talks are Jan. 27, Feb. 3, Feb 24, Mar. 30, Apr. 27, and May 25. The Feb. 3 talk will be held in conjunction with the St. Louis River Summit.
