Tap Talks Series Taps Into Community Science Learning

Free Tap Talks, held at Central Waters Brewery in Amherst, Wis., provide an opportunity to get scientists out into a community affected by the research that’s being undertaken, and gives those community members a chance to discover cutting-edge findings about things they care about. Audience members can ask questions and help share future research directions.

Talks are at 4 p.m. the second Sunday of September 2018 through May 2019.

The series is funded by an Ira and Ineva Reilly Baldwin Wisconsin Idea Endowment grant. Partners in the effort include the University of Wisconsin-Extension Lakes program; Jon Steigerwaldt, owner of Steigerwaldt Forest Professionals; and Central Waters Brewery, which is offering the talks’ venue free of charge.

Sept. 9 Karen Oberhauser, director, University of Wisconsin-Madison Arboretum, will talk about monarch butterflies.

Oct. 14 Anne Moser, senior special librarian, Wisconsin Water Library of the Sea Grant Institute and Water Resources Institute, will talk about the inter-connectedness of water and the Great Lakes.

Topics for future talks will be determined.
