University of Wisconsin–Madison Aquatic Sciences Center fisheries specialist wins 2026 Lake Michigan Champions of Conservation award
Titus Seilheimer, University of Wisconsin–Madison Aquatic Sciences Center fisheries specialist, is the winner of the Lake Michigan Champions of Conservation Award.
Awarded annually by Lake Michigan Stakeholders since 2014, the Lake Michigan Champions of Conservation awards have honored the outstanding environmental achievements of those who have gone beyond the normal scope of work on the restoration, improvement, or enhancement of Lake Michigan and its watersheds.
“Titus exemplifies what it means to be a true champion for the Great Lakes, blending world-class expertise with unmatched enthusiasm, creativity, and heart,” said ASC director Christy Remucal. “Whether he’s advising the Great Lakes Fishery Commission, co-hosting the ‘Ask Dr. Fish’ podcast, or leading paddling tours and wild rice restorations, Titus has a rare talent for making complex science accessible, engaging, and fun for audiences of all ages.”
As Wisconsin Sea Grant’s fisheries specialist for over the last 13 years, Titus has inspired people of all ages to explore, appreciate, and protect Lake Michigan’s waters and wildlife through his social media presence, videos, presentations, and mentoring of students.
Beyond his scientific and outreach contributions, Titus is a valued colleague whose steadfast advocacy, inclusive spirit, and humor uplift those around him, and his legacy of dedication deeply enriches our coastal communities and freshwater ecosystems.

The UW–Madison Aquatic Sciences Center administers Wisconsin Sea Grant, the Wisconsin Water Resources Institute, and Water@UW–Madison. The center supports multidisciplinary research, education, and outreach for the protection and sustainable use of Wisconsin’s water resources. Wisconsin Sea Grant is one of 34 Sea Grant programs supported by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in coastal and Great Lakes states that encourage the wise stewardship of marine resources through research, education, outreach, and technology transfer.
